Good nutrition is a key factor in performance, and we have
been very happy with the Purina products that we have been feeding for the past
several years. With two barns full of horses competing in both eventing and
dressage, from greenies to world-class horses, as well as few older campaigners
on maintenance diets, our horses’ nutritional needs cover a broad spectrum.
For instance, Boyd’s four-star eventer Trading Aces, who
competes all over the globe and was the leader of the US team at the 2013 Boekelo
CCI4* in the Netherlands, is on a high-energy diet of Omolene 500®
horse feed. Some of the hotter event horses who need plenty of fuel for
cross-country but have trouble containing all that energy in the dressage are
on Purina Ultium® Competition Horse Formula.
We are also looking forward to continuing to use the Hydration Hay™ block, a
new technology for hydrating horses. A useful feed in several sitautions , we
have found it particularly convenient while traveling. It’s been especially helpful
for long road trips and when we are
traveling overseas, because hydration is especially important.
A lot of Silva’s dressage horses are in quite hard work and
we are careful about the amount of feed that they receive, weighing their
portions to customize their feed so that they are getting exactly what they
need. We really try to personalize each horse’s diet to make sure we get
the best out of each individual. Purina® horse feeds are
nutritionally balanced and palatable and really keep our horses looking and
feeling their best. And with the winter show season in Florida just around the
corner, and the event horses heading to Aiken, we really want them to shine!
